PE at DKH

We believe that all children should participate in Physical Education in a safe environment to enable them to:

  • enjoy physical activity
  • improve physical skills and co-ordination
  • develop co-operative, social, creative and decision making skills
  • improve self-esteem and respect for each other
  • appreciate values of safety and fair play and to develop a basis for the continuation of P.E. in adult life.

We believe that each child should be given the opportunity to achieve success in a range of activities which challenge them.

We aim to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum to all children.

At Key Stage 1 this would include:

gymnastics, dance & games

At Key Stage 2 this would also include:

athletic activities, tennis, tag rugby, cricket, rounders, hockey, football & basketball

In Year 3 children do swimming lessons.

In Year 6 there is a school journey which includes outdoor / adventurous activities

We aim to involve the skills and expertise of parents, other schools and members of the community in the development of PE and sport in Dog Kennel Hill School, particularly to help develop extra curricular activities. These include:

Bacon’s College School Partnership – Various sport activities throughout the year

Southwark Community Games – Tag Rugby coaching, Athletics coaching, Cricket coaching and a Multi-Sports Club (After School Club)

Southbank University – Basketball coaching (After School Club)

Deborah Aliendre (Southwark) – Netball coaching (After School Club)

Ross Orton (teacher) – Football coaching – Years 5 & 6 (After School Club)
